The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris that stands on the place Charles de Gaulle, formely place de l'Etoile at the western end of the Champs Elysees avenue. It was built to celebrate the victory of the emperor Napoleon 1er at Austerlitz. Beneath the Arc is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the first World War interred here on Armistice Day 1920 with an eternal flame.
The Arc de Triomphe can be visited. From the roof, you can admire Paris and especially the Champs-Elysees avenue and on the west side the modern Arche de La Defense.
